ABOUT Danny Meisinger

Artist Statement

When I reflect on my many years of work as a studio potter, I realize it has changed dramatically, and the way I think about my work has also changed.  My work as a potter, though extremely enjoyable is not the totality of who I am.  I do not sacrifice everything to its advancement and I never want to become so consumed by it that I cannot hold it in a healthy context.

I am first, an individual striving to be more deeply human.

My work as an artist is very important to me, but it’s not just about pots.  What I mean by that is, art is important in the world.  Even more important than art are artists, we think differently, we think creatively.  Creativity is spirit filled, and the more art there is in the world the more artists there will be, and the more spirit filled the world becomes.

Clay and Nature

Embossed Surface/Handbuilt Form

Want to become a better hand builder? Let’s take a deep dive...

During this weeklong workshop we will explore simple and complex form, (mugs, bowls, vases, pitchers and lidded vessels), using soft slab construction techniques such as cutting, darting, stretching, and the use of coils. We will learn how to make coil handles and a variety of spouts. Slab construction is such a delightful way to make pots!

Using embossing plates, the surfaces will be embellished to create three dimensional plant imagery on the surface of the clay. Creating a raised relief surface can make surfaces sing. Then, we will learn how to make our own embossing plates using plants growing in this magnificent area.

In and around making pots we will also discuss functional and aesthetic considerations related to form, processing pots through the kiln, how to inlay oxides, as well as glazing tips and techniques.

And we will be working in one of the most beautiful places on earth; could it get any better?

Christy will be doing a presentation and talk about her work on February 28th. Please consider coming for this event as well! You’ll have an opportunity to buy some of Christy’s amazing work.
